Alvear Avenue has an area of \u200b\u200bjust seven blocks and is one of the most distinguished streets of Buenos Aires. In it and its surroundings settled, since the end of the 19th century, the residences of the most traditional families of the country. Between Rodr\u00edguez Pe\u00f1a and Montevideo, a building of great patrimonial value is located, composed of the Maguire residence (ex-Hume), the Duhau palace and the Fern\u00e1ndez Anchorena residence, current headquarters of the Apostolic Nunciature, which represents the best of historicist eclecticism that still survives in the city.<\/p>\n
The Duhau Palace was designed by the French architect Leon Dourge for the engineer and rancher Luis Duhau, among other orders that this professional made for other members of the family, both in Buenos Aires, its surroundings and a hull of stay on the coast on the Atlantic.<\/p>\n
This palace is built on a plot of more than 30 meters wide, passing from Alvear Avenue to Posadas Street, with a steep slope due to the ravine on the coast of the river. As usual, the residence was built on the upper part of the lot, leaving the rest of the plot for the creation of an extensive garden.<\/p>\n
Prior to the construction of the palace, there was a residence in the land belonging to the family of Teodoro de Bary designed by the architect Carlos Nordmann in 1898, which was demolished, and at the time hosted the Infanta Isabel in her visit to the city \u200b\u200bon the occasion of the centenary of the May Revolution.<\/p>\n
The building follows the general lines of French-inspired academic architecture, taking, in this case, a precise building as a model: the Chateau du Marais, built near Paris in the eighteenth century. The residence of the Duhau family corresponds to the typology of the hotel particulier, which is developed with the location of large independent apartments per floor. By the end of the 1940s, subdivisions were made in order to achieve a greater number of living spaces.<\/p>\n
The work is removed from the municipal line to facilitate the location of a courtyard of honor for vehicle access, surrounded by a grid of elaborate design. Its facade is organized according to a central axis of symmetry; It has a central body defined by a portico of slender columns that support an attic, on which rests a triangular front. The bodies located laterally to this portico present the usual stratification of this type of residences; a half-buried level for the technical areas, two upper levels where the reception areas are organized and be in the first and the bedrooms in the second and the areas destined to the easement, in the mansard that completes the set.
\nIn the quiet part of the building there is a terrace from which you descend to the splendid garden designed by Carlos Thays.<\/p>\n
Since 2006 the Hotel Park Hyatt Buenos Aires has been operating in the building. The Peralta Ramos – SEPRA studio took care of the project of the tower with rooms located on Posadas Street and of the value and adaptation of the old building to the new functions. The link between the two parties was made taking advantage of the difference in level between Posadas Street and Av. Alvear. On the one hand, an internal corridor – the Paseo de las Artes – where an important collection of Argentine art is exhibited; and on the other hand, externally, through the terraced garden that preserves the imprint of its original design.<\/p>\n
