LOCATION
The capital of the Argentine Republic is located on the coast of the Río de la Plata.
The Río de la Plata and the Riachuelo are the natural borders of the city to the East and South, respectively. The rest of the metropolitan perimeter is surrounded by General Paz Avenue from North to West. This avenue provides a fast connection between the city and Greater Buenos Aires, a densely populated area with an important commercial and industrial activity.
WEATHER
The climate of Buenos Aires is temperate throughout the year. The average annual temperature is 18º C (64.4º F), with rarely extremely hot and cold days. Therefore, visitors can enjoy walking around the city at any time of the year.
July is the coldest month. Although frost is rare, a wool coat or jacket are advised.
In summer, the weather is hot and humid.
Rains are more frequent in autumn and spring (from March to June and from September to December).
LANGUAGE
The official language is Spanish. Something to note is the use of “vos” instead of the Spanish “tú” to address someone informally, and the use of “che” to address a person. Most people involved in tourism activities speak English.

Two airports serve the city:
Jorge Newbery Airport
Tourists coming from the interior of the country or from neighbouring countries arrive at this airport located on the river bank, five minutes from the city centre.

Visitors from the rest of the world arrive at this airport located 15 minutes from the city centre by road. Taxis, chauffeur-driven cars, transfer and bus services are available 24 hours a day.

RIVER TRANSPORT
Ferry
Buenos Aires is connected to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay through the river. Trips from Colonia and Montevideo are scheduled daily.

BUSES
Retiro bus terminal:
This is the main bus station. From here, all bus lines begin their long distance services either towards the interior or towards the bordering countries.
Address: intersection of Av. Antártida Argentina and Av. Ramos Mejía.
TAXIS
They can be ordered by phone or you can hail them on the street. Radiotaxis (equipped with radio systems) are considered safer. There are many taxis in the city, it is easy to find a taxi near the tourist areas at any time of the day or night.
Taxis can be easily be recognized by their black and yellow taxi colours.
REMISE
This is a type of limousine service that you can order by telephone through numerous agencies across the city. These cars are not identified by a special colour.
RENT A CAR
You must be over 21 years old, have a driver’s license (at least two years old) and an authorized credit card limit to cover the rent and the guarantee.
Garage or parking areas: You can rent a parking space for a fraction of an hour, a full hour or a day.
ACCOMMODATION
Buenos Aires disposes of accommodation for more than five million tourists each year. The main international three and four star hotel chains can be found in the city. One, two and three star hotels are also available. In addition, aparthotels and hostels offer more affordable rates.
GASTRONOMY
In Buenos Aires you can enjoy food from different regions and several typical specialties. The city has specific areas where you can choose from a wide range of restaurants.
The districts of Costanera Norte and Puerto Madero are famous for their grills. The surroundings of Avenida de Mayo is the ideal place to taste Spanish food. The most traditional pizzas can be found on Corrientes Street. The neighbourhoods of Plaza Cortázar, Palermo Hollywood, Recoleta and Las Cañitas offer gourmet specialties: elaborate, refined and exotic dishes.
